Prefunding and Balance Management
Before initiating any transactions, the API consumer must prefund the CellPay wallet through approved top-up channels. The available wallet balance represents the maximum transaction value that can be processed at any given time. Each successful transaction initiated via the API results in an immediate debit from the wallet balance.
If the wallet balance is insufficient at the time of transaction initiation, the request will be rejected based on predefined validation rules. It is the responsibility of the API consumer to monitor wallet balance levels and ensure timely top-ups to avoid transaction failures or service disruptions.
CellPay maintains accurate records of wallet balance movements, including top-ups, deductions, reversals, and adjustments. These records are available to the API consumer through reporting and reconciliation mechanisms provided by CellPay.
Transaction Processing Behavior
All transactions executed under the Wallet-Based API Model are processed internally within the CellPay ecosystem. Since the funds are already prefunded, transactions do not require real-time bank authorization at the time of execution, resulting in faster processing and higher transaction reliability.
The API consumer initiates transactions using standard CellPay API endpoints. The transaction flow, request structures, and validation steps remain consistent with other API models, with the primary distinction being the source of funds. Once validated, the transaction amount is deducted from the wallet balance and routed to the relevant service or beneficiary.
Settlement and Reconciliation
Settlement under the Wallet-Based API Model is handled through wallet balance adjustments rather than direct bank debits. Transaction settlement occurs instantly at the wallet level, while downstream settlement with service providers is managed by CellPay as per existing agreements.
Reconciliation reports, transaction summaries, and wallet statements are generated by CellPay and made available to the API consumer for operational and accounting purposes. These reports enable partners to track usage, monitor balances, and reconcile transactions against internal records.
Risk and Operational Considerations
The Wallet-Based API Model provides greater control over transaction execution by eliminating dependency on real-time banking systems. However, it requires effective balance management and operational oversight by the API consumer. Failure to maintain adequate wallet balance may result in declined transactions and service interruption.
Transaction limits, daily caps, and service-level restrictions may be applied to the wallet based on regulatory requirements, risk assessment, and commercial agreements.
Applicability
The Wallet-Based API Model is best suited for API consumers who require high transaction throughput, predictable settlement behavior, and minimal dependency on external banking systems. It is commonly adopted by aggregators, high-volume merchants, and service platforms that prefer prefunded operational models.
